Hyfrecation uses a low-powered electrical current to precisely destroy benign skin lesions — vaporizing tissue at the treatment site with minimal damage to surrounding skin. It’s a fast, effective, and precise technique for removing skin tags, DPN (dermatosis papulosa nigra), milia, sebaceous hyperplasia, and other benign growths without the need for excision or stitches.
What Hyfrecation Treats
- Skin tags — soft, benign growths on the neck, underarms, or eyelids
- DPN (Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra) — small dark raised spots common on darker skin tones, typically on cheeks and around the eyes
- Milia — small, hard white cysts under the skin surface
- Sebaceous hyperplasia — enlarged oil glands appearing as yellowish bumps on the face
- Syringomas — benign sweat duct growths, typically under the eyes
- Cherry angiomas — small, bright red benign vascular growths
What to Expect
After topical numbing, the hyfrecator tip is applied to each lesion for a fraction of a second. Each lesion is treated individually in rapid succession. A small scab forms at each treatment site and falls off naturally over 5–10 days — revealing clear, smooth skin. Most patients treat 10–50 lesions per session. Avoid picking at scabs to prevent scarring.
Is It Permanent?
Treated lesions are permanently removed. However, new lesions of the same type can form over time due to genetic predisposition — particularly DPN and skin tags. Periodic maintenance sessions every 1–2 years keep skin clear.
