Sclerotherapy is the gold standard treatment for spider veins and small reticular (feeder) veins — typically on the legs. A sclerosing solution is injected directly into the vein, causing it to collapse, scar, and gradually fade as the body absorbs it. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and requires no anesthesia.
What Sclerotherapy Treats
- Spider veins (telangiectasias) — red, blue, or purple web-like clusters
- Small reticular veins — slightly larger blue or green feeder veins
- Small varicose veins (under 3mm)
Results
Treated veins gradually fade over 3–6 weeks as the body reabsorbs them. Some patients see significant improvement after one session; others require 2–4 depending on the number and severity of veins. New spider veins can form over time due to genetics and lifestyle factors, so periodic maintenance may be recommended.
After Treatment
We recommend wearing compression stockings for 1–2 weeks after treatment to support proper vein closure. Avoid sun exposure on treated areas and strenuous exercise for 48 hours. Walking is encouraged to promote circulation.
