Photofractional is a combined treatment that delivers IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and fractional non-ablative laser (ResurFX) in a single session — addressing both pigmentation and texture in one visit rather than two separate appointments. It’s one of the most comprehensive skin rejuvenation options available without the downtime of CO2 laser.
How It Works
The treatment begins with an IPL pass that targets melanin (brown spots, sun damage) and oxyhemoglobin (redness, visible vessels). This is followed immediately by the ResurFX fractional laser, which creates microscopic treatment zones in the dermis to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and tone from within.
What Photofractional Treats
- Sun spots and age spots
- Redness and rosacea (from the IPL component)
- Uneven texture and enlarged pores (from the ResurFX component)
- Fine lines and early wrinkles
- Acne scarring (mild to moderate)
- Overall skin quality and luminosity
Photofractional vs. Individual Treatments
Photofractional is ideal for patients who have both pigmentation concerns and textural concerns. Combining the two technologies in one session is more efficient and often more cost-effective than two separate appointments — and the dual treatment produces synergistic collagen stimulation. If your primary concern is purely pigment, standalone IPL may be sufficient. If texture and laxity are the priority, ResurFX or CO2 laser may be recommended instead.
Recovery
Expect 3–5 days of redness and mild swelling. Brown spots will darken and flake off within the first week. Fractional laser sites may feel like a mild sandpaper texture for a few days. SPF 50 is required daily throughout recovery and for at least 4 weeks after treatment.
